Somali pirates have hijacked the UAE-owned M/V Savina-Fahad, Somalia Report has confirmed citing a Somali businessman in Dubai and a local pirate source.

According to the report, the M/V Savina-Fahad was hijacked last week while transiting the Indian Ocean en route to the UAE with a cargo of charcoal.  The number of crew onboard is said to be more than 10, mostly from Pakistan, however this has not yet been confirmed.

Somalia Report adds that ships carrying charcoal are difficult to hold for ransom and that the M/V Savina-Fahad will likely be used as a pirate mother ship until another vessel is hijacked.
