gCaptain forum member tokyo_buddha pointed us to a new reality show on Scottish TV titled “The Merchant Navy“. The program was created in partnership with the UK’s Merchant Navy Training Board, BP ShippingMaersk Lines and the cruise industry partners at Ocean Opportunities. We have featured a number of maritime reality television shows but, as the show Carrier did for the US Navy and America’s Port did for terminal operations,  this is the first to chronicle the daily lives of the mariners working aboard large ships.

Also on our radar is the emrgence of new web based sites for the maritime industry. gCaptain has long been fans of TheBoaters.tv and Maritimetv.com but the former is geared towards the recrational boater and the latter lacks integration with the tools of Web 2.0. We are, however,  excited to find new sources of online programing that target the professional side of the industry including eSea24 from Norway.

If you know of any online video producers please leave a link in the comments. Otherwise click HERE to start watching The Merchant Navy.
