Ships Collide in Turkey

Two ships have collided off the Coast of Turkey. The Turkish Press tells us:

One of two cargo ships sank after they collided off Darica hamlet of Gebze town of northwestern city of Kocaeli. One person was reported missing after the collision and another was injured.

Sources told the A.A correspondent that 2,247 gross ton-cargo ship “Turgut Kocabas” and 8,220 gross ton-cargo ship named “Zinnet Mete” collided off Darica on Tuesday. 2,247 gross ton-cargo ship sank after the collision. 15 of 16 crewmen of the ship named “Turgut Kocabas” were rescued. One person of rescued crewmen who was injured in the collision was hospitalized. On the other hand, one person was reported missing.

Coast guard teams are searching for the missing crewman.

The general cargo ship “TURGUT KOCABAS” (IMO# 7808530), is ship owned and managed by KALTUR SHIPPING. She was built in 1980.

Zinnet Mete

The container ship “Zinnet Mete” (IMO# 8913320), formally named the “MEHMET KALKAVAN” is ship owned and managed by IREM DENIZCILIK of Turkey. She was built in 1993.
