As a young cadet cadet excited about an approaching storm the C/M told me something Ifind myself repeating; “You can tell the green hands from the old salts by their reaction to an approaching storm. The newbie will say ‘This is going to be fun’ while the old salt is thinking ‘Shit, not another’.

Factor your draft FiRST it will let you know how much your roll will be X wind speed. Over 40 degrees is pushin it for most vessels less than 200 ft. Over 200 you may not be broached by anything less than anything less than twice your bridge hight. Sometimes it don’t matter:(
Had 2 go down on me. One lost her steering and laid down and one caught fire. Keep your bildge pumps and bildge CLEAN! Check the pumps every damn day. or else. It’s no game out there you screw up you die.
