Exponent is currently hiring an Engineer in our Menlo Park (CA) and Los Angeles offices. This individual will work as a part of a team conducting metallurgical, materials, and mechanical failure analyses. Duties will include communicating effectively with other engineers and technicians, managers, clients, and administrative reports as well as conducting hands-on failure analysis, planning and executing laboratory tests, field inspections, SEM operation, and metallurgical analysis and testing.

Mechanical engineering failure analysis
Design analysis
Accident reconstruction
Risk management and reliability
Adhesion and coating evaluation
Corrosion science and engineering
Experimental stress analysis
Fatigue and fracture mechanics analysis
Material characterization, selection, and compatibility assessment
Polymer and elastomer failure analysis
Aviation and marine services

Qualifications for this position include:

Ph.D. in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science and Engineering and familiarity with mechanical engineering
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work within project teams with a strong desire to contribute
Specialized knowledge of photography, metallography, optical microscopy and SEM/EDS is desired
