Stands wheel watches in relief of and primarily under the direct supervision of the Captain of a 53 foot vessel. Selects, makes ready, fastens hawsers and mooring lines to piers, and fastens lines to secure other craft coming along-side or in tow. Cares for, renews, and supplies line. Performs rigging (cargo and deck loading). Maintains internal and external vessel appearance. Cleans, repairs, and adjusts deck machinery on regular basis; includes small boat winch, anchor and windlass, escape hatches, booms, skiff, inflatable, etc. Serves as cargo loader, adjusting placement of cargo on deck and in hold and taking on/off fuel to assure safety of cargo and vessel. Assists with maintenance and repair of all vessel mechanical equipment. Maintains inventory of equipment onboard and ensures emergency equipment is in ready to go state. Operates skiff and inflatable between 53 foot vessel and shore transporting personnel, supplies and materials to coastal camps. Prepares ship’s menus with Captain, stocks supplies of food stores to feed crew and passengers when underway, and maintains food storage, preparation and eating areas clean and sanitary. Prepares wholesome, balanced means for crew and passengers. Purchases food and supplies for SERAC trips and tracks budget for same. Qualifies for government credit-card and uses same according to established regulations and policies. Coordinates schedules and trip manifests with captain and park logistics coordinator. Briefs passengers on emergency procedures and routine operations in place to minimize conflicts and interference with boat operations.
