Home » Shoreside JobsThrough the Chief Engineer and contractor support services, ensure the dependable and efficient operations of the CHP by:
* Evaluating existing routines and SOPs, including but not limited to those relating to start-up, shut-down, or operation of the plant and remote CHP satellite locations.
* Recommending improving/creating new routines and SOPs and implementing those that are approved by the University
* Ensuring that all plant equipment and supporting system components (including steam and electrical distribution systems and their components) are in good working order.
* Perform inspections of Plant and auxiliary site equipment, document defiencies, develop scope of work, perform task utilizing contractors or in house staff.
* Evaluating existing preventive maintenance program, and recommending improving/creating new strategies for PM, and implementing those that are approved by the University
* Create and implement an effective series of reports that will be regularly distributed to relevant University staff
Specifically, the Chief Engineer will also be responsible for the duties put forth in the position’s job description. Overall the Chief Engineer is in charge of and responsible for the oversight of the CHP staff and contractors working in the plant, including leadership, supervision, communication, safety, administrative duties related to staff (including time tracking), and work assignment, execution, and inspection. All CHP employees will report directly to the Chief Engineer.
The Chief Engineer will provide for the safe and efficient operation and daily preventative maintenance and chemical testing of all boilers and Central Heat Plant High Temperature Hot Water Systems. S/he will provide engineering support for all associated maintenance including chemical treatment of the various systems, supervise the planned maintenance and repair of all plant equipment and distribution systems and coordinate the shut down of equipment, and provide technical expertise and troubleshooting skills for mechanical, electrical and Control Systems related to the Central Heat Plant.
The Chief Engineer is responsible for maintaining a safe work environment by interacting with the Environmental Health and Safety department in implementing protocols enforcing Local, State and Federal emission regulations and in issuing required reports.
The Chief Engineer will respond to emergency calls as necessary.
