Hyundai Mipo Dockyard is on a roll with a just-announced newbuild order for eight, 38,000 m³ LPG-carriers from Belgium-based shipping company EXMAR. The vessels will be delivered from Q1 2014 onwards. The contract value was not disclosed.
These vessels will be dedicated to strengthen EXMAR’s already substantial commercial portfolio in the midsize segment and designed to stay ahead of the upcoming amendments in environmental legislation.
Specific design improvements to increase efficiency and reduce emissions include an optimized hull form and propeller design, a funnel design facilitating the installation of a SOx scrubber, and an engine room and deck layout that is “LNG or LPG-Ready”. Additionally, a ballast water treatment system will be installed to minimize transfer of harmful aquatic organisms.
This order comes 18 days after a $198 million requisition for four platform supply vessels for an undisclosed European client.
