Awesome!!! And sure... send mike an email: mike at gcaptain.com
Just finished my last exam(!!!) and have successfully upgraded my license to:
1600 Ocean Master
3rd Mate Unlimited
And, um, unlike Mt. Skier, I am not going to post my scores because, well, because Mt. Skier kicked ass and I didn't.
But, hey, I'm pretty happy with no retakes and the fact that I did 8 modules in 3 days.
Does that get me a t-shirt?![]()

Congratulations CF,
Not an easy accomplishment by most standards.
That is great, Congratulations on one hell of an accomplishment. I looked and looked but I did not see where on my license the scores were printed.
It comes from hard work and determination...something I'm sure you did and have.
Hell of an accomplishment. Congratulations!

Test scores be DAMNED!
I would MUCH rather be last guy to pass THIS test cycle then the first guy to pass the next.

Capt. Fran,
Great Job! What was your study method and would you recommend it? I am using the Hawsepipe.net software for the Inland Master AGT and 2nd Mate Oceans. It is pretty good.
Good luck on the job search with your new credentials.
Rob
Capt. Fran,
Congrats, job well done!!!!!
Many, many thanks to everyone for the congratulations! Other than being a little dehydrated (), I'm feeling pretty damn good today!
Hi RJB. I used a multi-pronged approach to studying, and I can only comment that it worked for me. Results may vary.
Overview:
I started with Capt. Joe's software (http://www.uscgexam.com/), which I understand is really similiar to hawsepipe.net, then I switched to lapware.org because I liked their test exams better, and the whole time I was also using the Murphy books and a bunch of reference books.
The details:
I would read a section of questions from the Murphy books, highlight the answers and if there was any question that I didn't understand, I would look it up in a reference book, i.e. Bowditch (Nate knows!), Knights, Duttons, etc. Then after I got through the section, I would go into Capt. Joe's or Lapware and test myself a couple of times until I was getting 80%-ish on that section. Then I would move onto the next.
Et voila, three weeks later I figured I was as ready as I was going to be, and went in and tested.
Good luck to you and let us know how you do!
Thanks for sharing Capt. Fran. Yes, it's always good to get "straight with Nate". My Friend used only Capt. Joe's and breezed the Master Inland AGT and 1600 Ton GL yesterday. I don't plan on having any trouble either. It'll be a while for me, I still have to submit my application for testing. You definitley had harder exams, so I am sure the extra materials were a real benefit.
I must have missed this Capt. Fran, belated congratulations..![]()
I don't know about a t-shirt but you certainly deserve a sincere congrats Capt. Fran. I just submitted my app. to test for 3rd/2nd after 26 years with my 1600/3000 Ocean Master. Had nothing else to do. Found out at Fletcher Maritime School just how much I have forgotten over the years. It's very humbling. My instructor informed me that I will have to retake the Celestial for the 3rd/2nd. I don't understand it and neither does he. I'm trying to talk the CG into waiving that but it will be up to the evaluator. Hope I get a good one. I'm also requesting that I be issued a 2nd Mate bypassing 3rd Mate issuance seeing I have so much seatime as Master 1600. Hope that works out too. Again congrats.....it's not an easy accomplishment, you have the right to be proud of yourself.......
