Artful, I have enjoyed your narration of this and other incidents very much...mainly because what I learn from them, may help me live longer...
I'm presently on a vessel that had a recent engineroom fire.( No causulties )..I wasn't onboard when this occured but after reviewing all that took place and participating in the fire drills since, I'm not afraid to say I'm a bit nervous...The lessons from this actual fire have not hit home...I don't get it...
I am the only ex navy person on the ship, not saying that means I know more because it doesn't...I'm in an OS billet at the present time...But I have had extensive firefighting training while on active duty and there are procedures in place for a reason...
The last drill we had, was so unprofessional that it turned into an actual debate outside the space where the fire was supposed to be taking place , the mate and an AB were in such disarray I actually started giving orders as what we needed to do...To my amasement everyone listened to me....lol...At the debrief, I had a chance to state my view of things..I appologized for taking control of the scene, but someone had to....
