Default Big Tuition Hike for Out of State Students

    Maritime College Tuition Update......
    Wednesday, May 05, 2010

Dear Future Maritime Students and Parents,

I know that making the final college choice is challenging for both students and parents. This is one of the most significant decisions a high school senior has to make. I believe choosing Maritime is a wise decision. Since 1874, Maritime has been providing outstanding learning opportunities for students. As an institution, we are dedicated to providing the best educational experience to all of our students. This includes a vibrant student life through on-campus activities, athletic programs, internships, and the Summer Sea Term. Our faculty members have extensive experience in their fields and most have the highest degree attainable in their discipline.

We understand that financial assistance is often the deciding factor in choosing a college. Currently, the State University of New York is waiting for approval of the 2010-2011 tuition rates from the New York State Legislature. We believe the State Legislature will vote for a 2% increase to in-state and out-of-state tuition. As soon as the official numbers are available, Maritime’s Financial Aid Office will complete the financial aid packages for accepted students.

In addition, it is our belief that SUNY will implement a new regional tuition of $7,604 a year for students residing in the following states: Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Maryland, New Jersey, North Carolina, Rhode Island, South Carolina, the District of Columbia, Pennsylvania and Virginia. This is significantly less expensive than the out-of-state tuition of $12,870 a year. (Click hear to see tuition rates by state)

Most students will still receive a tuition discount compared to their home state tuition. A student from New Jersey, for example, will still pay less tuition per year to go to Maritime than to Rutgers. Our graduates currently have 100% job placement and among the highest starting salaries in the nation. Overall, in looking at the big picture, Maritime College offers an affordable quality education that will provide students with lifelong skills and opportunities.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Admissions Office at 718-409-7221, or the Financial Aid Office at 718-409-7400.

    Sincerely,

    Jonathan White, M.B.A.

I can see that the they are waiting til the last minute to raise the tuition and calculate aid packages. If I were a seventeen or eighteen year old who had to finance his own education, this would be a deal breaker for me. Especially if I already accepted the offer of admission only to find out my tuition might go up.

Our graduates currently have 100% job placement-Lies,among the highest starting salaries in the nation (when compared to minimum wage jobs). this school twist words to make it seem a lot better than it actually is, and uses false propaganda to lure you in be aware. all the information above can be seen on sunys website im calling the better business bureau for false advertisement. lol

It will still be cheaper than in-state rates at some of the other state academies. Also, I think the funding to offer "regional" out of state rates that are lower than the normal out of state rates comes from MARAD.
