Default Whale Wars Violates MARPOL Regs!

Did anyone else watch the first episode of Whale Wars? The Bob Barker get's a hole in their diesal tank and spills about 5-ten barrels of fuel into the bilge.

Now they don't show the ship dumping the oily bilge water overboard but I doubt their oil/water separator could handle that much, it was up to the floorboards, and I guarantee they converted any spare tanks to hold more fuel.

I'm really glad that it takes more than an armchair doubter to convict a ship operator of pollution crimes.

    "Floorboards"?

    How about deck plates?

    Say what!?

First, I'm not trying to convict anyone just pointing out the irony in the situation of environmentalists polluting in whale feeding grounds. Second, if you invite video cameras to live on your ship you loose the expectation of privacy.

What do you think regulators don't watch TV? That instead they spend their time trolling the gCaptain board to find polluters?

    How about deck plates?

Tell us why leaking fuel oil into a bilge is "polluting in whale feeding grounds"?

Do you have video of them pumping oily bilge water over the side? How do you know their OWS can't handle what you believe you saw on a TV program?

Knowing these idiots it was probably the potable water tank line that was leaking, not the diesel tank.

I only watch this show so I can witness the day that one of the harpoon ships shoots one through their wheelhouse window. Or through one of their fast boats ether one will make me happy!!

I like how they lift the life raft up in last episode and just let it go to pollute the sea. Brilliant!

Season 1 was actually a very useful teaching tool for some of the drills onboard my current vessel...

While trying to launch their hard bottomed inflatable, the CM of the Steve Irwin let go of the fwd painter which led the small boat to turn sideways and swamp. It literally almost ripped the davit off of the deck, and (if i remember correctly) a crew members went into the water.*
I now use this video clip as a reminder to the crew of the importance of the Fwd painter, and how dangerous it can be if not handled properly.

Goes to show, "If you can't be a good example, then you might as well be a horrible warning."

You're calling me an armchair Admiral? Ok but do note my chair is a gas dampened adjustable height 150mm model on sliding deck rails with a 360° swivel... and the view is good from up here

    LMAO
Mine is 20+ years old and looks like a teddy bear someone got pissed off at. The duct tape leaves a nice goo behind on your "behind" especially on a hot day. But that keeps me from falling out of it when i slam the shit out of something.

The sea Shepard's cause is a noble one in my humble opinion.
Watson is a great Eco terrorist but he is no Captain.
I think they have raised the bar a little in recruiting some professionals but green female "Bosuns" should not be allowed to tie the knot for the prop fouler if it is going to be a clove hitch instead of a slip knot.
She likes being called a Bosun but she almost got them all killed because she didn't know how to tie a proper knot and did not have a proper line knife (serrated and sharp enough to shave grizzly Adams) at the ready.
Same goes for the so called "professional diver".
Now they are not just pissing off professional sailors with their stupidity.
I am a former commercial diver and if i was going to the Antarctic with my gear I would probably pack my Viking Vulcanized Rubber Dry Suit with the air tight DRY SUIT GLOVES and also a DRY SUIT HOOD.
And instead of using a knife from the galley I would probably use my serrated blade line knife that I have cut countless lines out of wheels with in less than half the time that guy spent freezing his ass off and almost getting knocked out by the boat.

The fuel had no dye in it so that is why it looked like water to the layman.

I highly doubt that BO stinking, dread locked hippies that eat a "Vegan" diet are going to pump dirty bilge overboard in the very seas they are risking their lives to protect.
Where do you think they pump their used oil after a PM? I am sure if the bilge became too high or explosive they pumped it into a slop tank for proper disposal in Aussie.

If you don't want to get singled out as a green man on my boat you call them "deck plates".

Watson had a good point when he talked about how many species are predicted to be extinct by the year 2060 was it?

Their cause is a noble one and they are making a difference. I am sure the Japs are having to eat contaminated dolphin meat that is being passed off as whale meat after this last season.

    Don't believe me?

Download and watch the documentary "The Cove".

Respond to this post only after you have watched that. Still got a taste for Jap whale meat? I'll pass thanks.

How the hell do they eat that shit anyway? I have tried it and it tastes like you are eating the asshole out of a two week old, greasy dead salmon someone found floating in a creek.

I am waiting to get high speed access so I can download and watch the remaining episodes of that season (season 4 i think?)

I too am glued to the tube when that show is on. I can't help myself. It is kind of like watching "Deadliest Catch". I spend months at a time living it and when i am home i have to watch it on TV.

Like we don't get enough boat drama out here. I must be sick.

They are pirates plain and simple. Today they are doing this to whalers, tomorrow it's oil tankers and anything else that "they" feel is a worthy cause. I do not agree with whaling, but I do not agree with taking things into your own hands and putting sailors in danger like these guys do

Self promotion? I never called anyone an armchair admiral. Read the post again ... it said "doubter."

And the view must be awfully good to see a Marpol "violation" and the capacity plate of their OWS. It is obvious a few here are consumed with hatred for that bunch but geez, if all you can find to justify it is your interpretation of a tiny moment of a TV program then that is kind of sad.

I never heard of the term "capacity plate" on a OWS.

me neither. OWS I assume stands for Ocean Wise Ship? guess i am the green man now but i never claimed to be part of the unlimited tonnage community.

maybe capacity plate is a limey thing.
