Pilot Boats

Hello All,
What requirements are there to not be an actual pilot, but to captain the pilot boat itself. I recently wondered about it. Is it just a general 50 ton license? Whats the schedule like, hows the pay? Im really just curious at this point. Thanks!

They like you to have a 100 NC. Around here (VA) the Va pilots use apprentice pilots to run the boats mostly, the MD pilots use boat crews they work 12 hour days, 1 week on/off, the pay isnt that great and i think their benefits are from SIU.
