Default Otto candies. How are they?

To whom it may concern. If anyone has or does work for Otto candies can you tell me how the company is to work for? How do you like it? How do they treat the employees? Thanks

I have not worked for them, but been on their vessels and know many people who do. If you talk to the employees (many of whom have been there 10, 20, 35, and from what I hear in one case 50 yrs) you get a sense that it is a company that really gets it and knows how to treat their employees. There are instances of other companies where the employees will go on-and-on about how great the company is - but it is obvious they are not allowed to say anything different than that. I don't believe that is the case with OC. Put it this way - if my son were looking to go to work in the Gulf - I would strongly recommend he try to get on with Otto Candies. Nice vessels. Safe and professional crews.

I have worked for them and I would not chose to paint OCLLC with a brush of too many happy and bright colors...sure, lots of the old hands still there decades later but not so with the more recent employees (especially if they aren't the chosen ones from south of I-10) Plenty now just getting their time to earn a DP certificate and away they go to the drilling companies. Seems to me that if they were such a stand up company as many seem to believe they are, they'd be doing more to keep everybody aboard there not just a few, Besides, their benefits suck!

In the end, really just a slightly different version of the same old bubba bayoo boat company way of operating except now they're running $50M ships and not boats anymore.

    CaptHH,
From what I have gleened, OC is paying their large OSV officers tops in this biz. That said, I know the other important things a company does for their employees fall in line with their pay. In a nutshell, I would also recommend them to my son, though I don't want him anywhere near the sailing business. Stay at home boy and finish college!!!

    C.Capt., my freind,
I think you have forgotten the difference between drillships and OSV/DSV vessels. Maybe because you have grown too fat and happy on them(HAHA) Drill companies are the producer/manufacturer segment of the maritime industry, ie. others want to buy what they have to offer, namely product, PETROLEUM. OSV/PSV companies for all their high priced and fancy equipment are still that big "S". SERVICE companies. That means that their employees while well paid, are still nothing more than glorified cabbies, housekeepers, etc. Case in point, when a crew change is to occur on a drill ship/rig does it happen on time? When a crew change is scheduled to happen on the OSV/PSV servicing the rig, do they make sure it happens on time? Forgive me my rant, I hope one day to be like you!

The good c.captain is just jealous the "chosen ones" south of I-10 have equal or better skills than he has. I will admit that there are plenty of floating industrial workers who laughably call them selves merchant seaman. Theses people exist at the osv and the drilling companies. I no people who work at OC. They tell the same stories you here from people wether they work for a "bayoo boat" company or one of those big fancy ship companies. Large multinational corporations do what's in their best interest wether they are in New York or Podunk Lousy-ana. Hire on and see if it feels right to you. Only you know what you are willing to put up with. Sometimes you take a job and it feels like home. Other times you are miserable like c.captain who isn't happy unless everyone bows and scrapes at his feet.

OUCH! Foiled by one of the chosen yet again. They've taken over and are everywhere I turn! If only I was as good as them and had their vaunted impressive vessel handling skills. That and if I dipped and spit in a bottle and smoked and had no teeth and an 8th grade education and was 300 pounds and talked like I had shit in my mouth, then I might be good enough to be chosen by Mr. Bossman Jr.

Oh well, some things will never change so I'll enjoy playing with the big boys with their better pay, health benefits, rotation, travel pay, 401K, training, and on and on... I've always said, there's two offshores. One run from Houston and one run from South Louisiana and never the twain shall meet.

Other times you are miserable like c.captain who isn't happy unless everyone bows and scrapes at his feet.
Ah misery! If you're a mariner you have to love misery....you bath in it and wear it like colone. It comes with the life and if there is somebody here who is not miserable in some way with this industry, let him step forward here and I will shower him with little girly glitter and stars. Otherwise, I consider my particular misery to be honed to a razor fine edge on the most amazingly tempered steel. It will cut right though heads filled with solid lead and reinforced concrete like it's styrofoam.

    Swwooooppp...

No need to ask for forgiveness my son...to rant is to express oneself in a way that can't be replicated with ordinary dialog. To vocalize, to expound, to declaim, to harangue, to orate, to pontificate, to rage and ah yes, to storm. To make oneself heard! TO LIVE!

As far as hoping to be like me, young glasshopper you are already showing much promise so you will be wise to continue to watch, listen and learn and you will too grow to become a master like your most humble servant.

When you can take this pebble from my hand, then it will be time for you to leave and then accidentally strangle yourself to death in a hotelroom in Bangkok! Oh how sad and terrible growing old can be...that's why we each need our own plan to go out with a cataclysmic explosion like a great super nova. Something which will keep our names alive for decades if not centuries afterward.

So let's drop the big one....they'll be no one left to blame us...

    KaBoom!

I rarely hear of anyone receiving a response to an emaiied resume and application, but most are hired on the spot after a personal appearance.
I know it is expensive but if you travel to South Louisiana , and make all the majors with your sea bag packed, I'm pretty confident you'll get a job now that it is picking up.
