Master 1600 o/c upgrading to 3rd mate ...do i have to test

In the CFR'S it says nothing about a Master 1600 O/C having to test for a 3RD'S. Or do I ??

Look in the deck guide, but the only way you do not have to test is if you took the test already. The following licenses take the exact same test. 500 ton Mate, 1600 ton Mate, Mate OSV, Mate 3rd......and it also depends on when you took the above tests. They changed to the same test in 2002.
