Default Physical and drug screen for endorsement renewal?

I took care of my RADAR renewal course yesterday. Do I need to get another physical and drug screen before I send the package in? My last license renewal was 10 months ago.

    Thanks in advance.

I don't believe so..they may not charge for that as well..the NMC wasn't charging for STCW endorsements to be added or the continuity conversion..they may just issue an "insert"..the school where you took your renewal should be able to advise you or go to the NMC website and email askNMC to be sure..I believe you are "legal" by just carrying the certificate??

The school I went to is worthless with paperwork IMO. They wanted $100 to do the paperwork... I can write my name and check the boxes just fine thank you. I know last time I renewed, I didnt need to have the ballcheck and whiz quiz, but lots of changes have been made since then.

    Thanks again.

I do not have an expiration date on my RADAR unlimited on my license. Does your license state that your RADAR expires? My understanding was that you use your certificate to get the endorsement on your original license and it is your duty to pack around proof that your RADAR is indeed valid. I carry my RADAR certificate with me everywhere. CFR 15.815

To answer your question on the physical.... they are good for 1 year. Drug test/letters are valid for 185 days.

If you are just sending the Radar recert in, you don't have to do that anymore. What else are you renewing (since you renewed less than a year ago?

If you renewed 10 months ago you do not need to send your radar cert in. You are required to carry it everywhere along with your MMC and FCC license.

So the cheesy printed on demand certificate is all I need to have with me?

So I got ahold of someone at the NMC and they said that the color copy of the "certificate" was all I needed to remain "valid". I just wonder will the database show me as expired when the date comes up.

It just seems like there should be something more to be done. To me, that piece of constrution paper is as useless as anything, atleast when its stamped in the book, its "official".

    Thanks for the help everyone.

There is no date on your radar on your license anymore. That is the point. The coast guard does not know when our radars expire because they don't have the dates we took the course. We need to price to an inspector we are still valid on the spot.

Not on the spot. You have 48 hours if asked to show your certificate.

I can't think of a good way to do that other than having it on you, but you are correct. If your company is willing to keep a copy on file to fax it to the coast guard, or your spouse knows where it is and has a fax machine then that could work. But if I am at work for two weeks I can't go home to get a copy to send them to verify. If they would accept an electronic copy then scanning it and keeping it on a flash drive would work too. If the radar is a US domestic only requirement then I dont see why the uscg can't keep the date in their database so an inspector can just look it up...

Or simply ask you to power it on, take it off standby, and tune it properly. That should be good enough. Better, in fact, than drawing the stupid RTM triangle once every five years.

It's just a feckin' piece of paper, how hard is it to carry it with you?

Thats true, and I do. Since I have to carry a binder anyway I take it too. I just wish they could make it so all we had to carry was our mmc, twic, and radio license...
