Carrying this over from another thread.
Other than your home port, what is the best place your seagoing vessel ever took you?? (We know home is always the best, so we'll drop that in a hurry)
Me- Rio de Janiero, great food, great view, great city!

Rio was nice, but I would have to say Saipan...everything that I imagined at the end of the rainbow minus the short green guy.

My favorite place in the world to have sailed into (not tropical) is Madera. I sailed into the harbor on a small sail boat right around Christmas. Ever street and ally had complex christmas themes of lights across the from building to building. The university students were caroling. Amazing place in all aspects, and if you like Port wine than you will be spoiled by the Madera wines. I was taken through a large stone arch into a sub level with huge wooden casks in a row. There were two little ancient men in the depths cleaning tasting glasses. I tried all the samples of the smaller casks and walled away happy with cases in hand and a bottle in the gut.

Madera is neat but that's a tough question. I'm sure I'm missing a few but here are some of my favorites:
    Coopenhagen

    Bermuda

Cape Town / kwazulu natal (n of durban)

    Borneo

    Mauritius

    Thailand
    I am also a fan of big cities and love;
    NYC

    London

    Singapore

    Tokyo
Last time I sailed by Zanzibar I almost threw a wrench in the engine, I thought that would make for a good story.

Here's the travel map from my facebook profile:

Our school ship went to Dan'nang when i was on it. God damn that was a good time. We sat at a beach restaurant on china beach where you ordered seafood by the pound. Best seafood I've ever had and beers were dirt cheap also. I think a whole day of drinking and eating cost me forty bucks. Can't wait to go back there with my buddies after school.

Like Anchorman said, Saipan was fun.

Also liked Gibraltar, Pusan (didn't get enough time ashore, as usual...), and halifax.

Haifa was interesting, as was Fujiarah UAE. (true story... Marine security detail was to meet the ship there, they show up in civvies, but under heavy UAE military escort. "why the civvies?" "Oh, they wanted us to keep a low profile" said the SGT with a sly grin.)

Coastwise, I'd say Anacortes WA or Kenai AK.

In no particular order guys, but her it goes:
Subic Bay and Manila, Republic of the Philippines
    Honolulu, Hawaii
    Lyttelton, New Zealand
    Punta Arenas, Chile,
    Talcahuano, Chile
    Capetown, South Africa
    Bay of Whales, Antarctica
    McMurdo Station, Antarctica
    Palmer Station, Antarctica
    Deception Island, Antarctica
    Halifax, Nova Scotia
    Apia, Western Samoa
    Souda Bay and Chania, Crete
    Ash Shuaybah, Kuwait
    Gdansk, Poland
    Goteborg, Sweden
    Bergen, Norway
    Stavanger, Norway
Aberdeen...man, there was this red head...
...and most points in between, and many more I'm forgetting. I don't know that I can "pick" a favorite, as all of them offered something so much different from the other.
If nothing else, it's been interesting!
