Stabbert Maritime in Seattle....now there is an "arse"hole if there ever was one. Somebody someday is going to break the kneecaps of that bag. The day they do, all the drinks for everybody will be on me!

Scripps is a great way to see some amazing places you will otherwise probably never see. A lot of those places are tropical and in some pretty intense heat. At the present, one of the ocean class vessels is in S.E. Asia now. You will work 4hrs on-8 hrs off- 4hrs on. 4hrs watch, 4hrs deck. Start over. Typically you will be asked to work 4 months on, 3 months off. It's tough to get a permanent spot with Scripps, they rarely have slots open. They will consider you part time and if it's a good fit for both parties, they will put you on schedule for the entire year, as part time. Here is a link you can learn a little more about them. http://shipsked.ucsd.edu/ Good luck.

Harbor Branch Oceanographic, in Ft. Pierce, FL, is no longer in the boat business. They sold their last boat off in 2010. It is just an oceanographic school now- owned and operated by Florida Atlantic University. It's a shame they let the best Marine Ops division in the oceanographic business go. A bunch of good people out of work because a few idiots didn't pull their head out of their keisters!

I'm sorry to hear that. I applied with them in 96 or so. I had a two hour long interview with the HR woman when she finally told me, "Gee, I wish I had a position to offer you. You'd be great for the job." AARRGGHH!!!
