Why not employ a net of sensors around the hull to detect people attempting to board?

What about an electric fence around the deck to prevent boarding?

Robotic boats, to protect the ship?

Robotic mine field to surround the ship?

Every boat/ship makes noise, what about sensors to detect, triangulate, and track these noises? You would want both air and water sound detectors.

What about motion detectors using cameras? You would have to filter out the noise of the motion of the ship itself, motion of the waves, and weather.

I think if each tanker were to employ a well trained guy with one of these it would deter the bad guys...

<o></o><o></o><st1>Gulf of Aden</st1> in August of 2008 to support international efforts to combat piracy. Coalition efforts included CTF-150 assets patrolling the area with ships and aircraft. However, the charter for CTF-150, established at the outset of Operation Enduring Freedom, was for the conduct of Maritime Security Operations (MSO) in the Gulf of Aden, the <st1>Gulf</st1><st1> of Oman</st1>, the Arabian Sea, Red Sea and the <st1>Indian Ocean</st1>. Operations included the deterrence of destabilizing activities, such as drug smuggling and weapons trafficking.<o></o>
