Just came across with one article, one of Tagos ship (USNS Assertive? if my memory serves) was harrassed by Chinese warships & fishing boats
on Chinese EEZ....On board on USNS were 12 navy guys and 22 civilians etc...

Any info's welcomed...Like How many OT they limit, something like that, too...

I've worked on two of the SWATH hull jobs. The first was still MSC crewed, I was a plankowner A/B. The second I was Third Mate. maersk Line Ltd had the contract. All officers were AMO, all unlicensed were SIU. Captain and all crew are civilians. We carried government contractors who did the sonar work. There might have been a Navy guy or two but I don't really remember any.
third Mate was making $80.00 per day in '99. I was only allowed 12 hours OT per week. Weekend watch was paid at a lower rate of pay than regular OT. 30 minute OT for meal relief every other day. 90 day hitch. We sat at the dock for a week when I first signed aboard, then did 73 straight days underway. Waited two weeks in port for my relief.

73 straight days ? Wow, how's the vegetables? They go bad really quick. How did they feed you?

After the first couple of weeks all the vegetables were canned or frozen. Naturally the food service gets worse as the trip goes on. And yeah! 73 straight days above the Arctic circle in winter. That's the longest I've ever gone between ports I can tell you. By the way, I understand the pay has improved significantly since I did the job.

As long as there's vegies on the table....
Canned & Frozen vegies are not bad, better than nothing comparing to one seiner fishing in the ocean 3~4 Months without any vegies at all.

What did you crew do all those times ? Very Curious..

Very little OT. Everyone had a TV in their rooms and there were lots of videos in the ship's library. Allegedly there was tons of porn too. I never saw any, of course. Ahem.. They had a pretty good library of books too. Mainly you just tried not to get on everyone else's nerves.
