QMED or Master 100 GRT

I have about 90 days sea time on the ferry I been working on as an engineer. Wondering if I should go for my QMED when I hit 180 days or hold off for the Master 100 GRT (Inland) when I hit 365 days. I'm planning on moving up to Maine from New Jersey in July, and trying for a ferry up there. What license would look better? Can I use the same sea time for the Master 100 GRT? If I can, might as well get both, right?

I don't want to discourage you and I don't know anything about the ferries up here in Maine but my guess is when you apply you might want to try and cut down on that Jersey accent.

Since you are relatively new why not get both and see where it takes you?..

I believe you can use the time for both, the 100 Ton license for sure, as it requires service on vessels..Not in a specific capacity..

Be careful as you might have to take "sensitivity training" again. Not everyone can come from an "accent free" area like SE Texas or Maine!

Haha. I'll keep that in mind. I've heard they like people from Jersey up there though, at shoreside gigs at least.

If I can use the same sea time I will go for both. What about AB Special or OSV? I believe I could get one of them right now with documented time on my own skiff. Any point in getting that too?

I shouldn't comment because I know nothing about the hiring practices of the ferries here in Maine. It could be that they are very enlightened regarding hiring someone "from away"
