I like my Eggnog without the Eggnog, just Rum which costs $1 for a liter bottle where I live![]()
Yeah, why waste good rum.
Wow, from terrestrial navigation to bathing in rum.........where else could this be headed?
Except academy cadets sitting for their first try at 3rd Mate. Due to the large number of cadets taking the test, they bring their own Bowditch. A few years ago NMC sent some staff to give the exams at one of the academies. Having been cadets once themselves, they had each cadet drop off their books on the way in and randomly passed them out once everyone was seated. A few cadets had panicked expressions when they realized they couldn't use their own copy...

Getting ready to take my first 3/m test in two weeks. Bowditch II could possibly be my favorite book ever. The glossary = Lifesaver on Nav Gen. Pg's 450 for sailings, 505 for Az (I like 4a better than 4b which is in the front 229 since it substitutes a sin/cos for a tan making it easier on the sci calculators).
For the dist. abeam I usually will use the special case formulas or man. board then double check it with trig if I have time.
Thank all you guys and gals for the great posts. Bowditch and Duttons got me my oceans I think I'm going to try for my 3M. I have 1600 w/tow but what the hell. About the Rum, in a glass with ice is about all I do. Since I haven't done the license thing since '85 when I got my 1000 ton F&T i wasn't up to speed on all the new online stuff for home study but ya'll helped me out with that. Thanks again![]()
for basic terrestrial- for tides and currents, light list and coast pilots- there is a green book that we use at suny maritime called,"Reprints from the LIGHT LISTS AND COAST PILOTS, and reprints from the TIDE TABLES AND TIDAL CURRENT TABLES the one i have is 1984 and its very helpful when used with Bowditch/Duttons . its good to solidify the basics
