Default 1600 inland to 3rd mate

If you have received an original 1600 ton mate INLAND license in 2009, can you upgrade to a 3rd mate license, just by taking all the STCW classes, without testing for the 3rd mate at the REC? is would seem that you could as they are the same test, provided that you meet the seatime requirements

You can download all the 3rd Mate test questions off the NMC webpage and you will see that it is definately not the same test..........

Mr foster, this is wht i came up with

    (4) Applicants who tested for a Mate 500/1600 GRT Oceans license AFTER 02/01/02 may apply for a Third Mate license
after acquiring the sea service required by 46 CFR 11.402 and 11.407. Except for visual signaling, no further examination
is required. (See Note 4 and NMC Guidance Document 02-05)

I do believe this subject has been beat to death in a couple of different threads...do a little search, I'm sure you'll find them

Reread that carefully. You asked about INLAND, that quote says OCEANS. The Inland test is much easier than the Oceans test...

Yes, after several emails to NMC they confirmed that there is NO crossover exam to ocean,,,,,,,It also took 5 emails for them to confirm that there is a 3rd mate unlimited limited to Near Coastal,,, only 5 more classes left,,, will do Celestial later to add the oceans,,, if adding the oceans I should not have to test again, but still waiting for the answer for that

When you write "will do Celestial later to add the oceans" you're writing about the test at the USCG REC, correct?
