well, what do you think? will this occupation and way of life be around in 50 years? or will foreign ships and foreign crews push the U.S. Merchant Marine under? do you think it odd that the "most powerful nation on earth" has few ships and fewer men to man them? how can we fix this dilemma?

I think we may well lose our ocean and coastal shipping ability, but I think we will definitely keep our brownwater sector. You have to be extremely familiar on the rivers and inland, and pigeon english just won't be good enough to communicate like you have to.
