Has anyone heard any new rumors or truth about chouest giving a raise in January?? I keep hearing about a 100$ across the board raise happening on January 1st and would like to know if it's true or not?
The time for taking all measures for a ship's safety is while still able to do so. Nothing is more dangerous than for a seaman to be grudging in taking precautions lest they turn out to have been unnecessary. Safety at sea for a thousand years has depended on exactly the opposite philosophy.
I just got off my boat this morning and last night we wereall sitting in the galley discussing this subject. I heard the same thing $100across the board BUTTTT I have heard this so much over the past year and a half man that untilI hear it from my coordinator or it hits my check I just canít buy into itanymore.. So to answer your question, no I havenít heard anything solid fromanyone of importance. I can tell you this though I would not advise anyonejumping ship for the dollar. We have a solid job with chouest and although theraises may not hit as fast as we would like them to, they will come. If youlook at the track record of chouest giving raises they are normally the lastone to give them out, to me the motive behind that is to weed out the weak ones.I donít know about you but I would rather be at our day rate and know that Ihave job security then to make a little more and a year down the road I getlaid off. Donít get me wrong though more money sure would be nice, damn surewould not hear me complain. But I know a good thing when I see one and I knowthat chouest can afford raises long after other companies have come and gone.
And who did you hear this rumor from? Was it a very reliable source lol. I won't believe it till it's hits the old bank account.
I've been hearing $100 across the board from "reliable" sources ever since I was hired. I guess this raise has been in the works since before I was hired 3 years ago lol.
So in reality, when's the last time raises were given at specific companies? Lots of talk Here about the same raise over and over.
We got the 100 last year.
Actually it was $300. It went from lead pay of $550 in late 2011 to $850 in May 2012!Originally Posted by captainbry
I know $850/day sounds good, but when the raises to $850/day were given vessel rates were about 40 percent what they are today. Share the love.
I just want to get hired on and bleed orange. But seems like if you don't just sit in the office 24/7 it is a lost cause
How bad do you want it.Originally Posted by stick
