Well, this is going to pretty identical to the last thread, I just put in application to MSC for unlicenced engineering positions. I'm told it can take several months to offer a position. Meanwhile, down at the MFOW hall, the port agent tells me that if I spring for a DC/CBRD certificate at a local school that he can get me a contract on an MSC vessel almost immidiately. I've been unemployed for quite some time now, and am anxious to get back to work. I'd take the classes, but don't like the idea of throwing money down a hole if MSC is just going to send me through them again. I would also like to know the differences between directly employed and Union contracted.
The MFOW Rep most likely was referring to a NDRF ship that MFOW has a collective bargaining agreement with the company operating the ship. Most likely with Patriot Contract services or Matson Navigation Company. I would go back and ask what company is operating the vessel. If it is Matson I would not bother as they operate only one ship the SS Cape Jacob. It is presently slated to be taken out of service sometime this year. I believe PCS just started operating some LMSR's for MSC so there is probably a good outlook there.
