The guy posted a job opportunity. All he got for his efforts was a bunch of flack from the "gurus" claiming he didn't know what the law required and a bunch of other opinions that were stated as if they were the law. I find this incredible, particularly when the gurus are the ones who claim to be professional mariners. A professional merchant marine officer should know the difference between his opinion and the laws he works under. If not then I don't have much respect for them or their opinions, especially when they post their misconceptions as examples for the up and coming young mariners who come here to learn. If you are going to make a career out of this industry make sure you take your lead from the CFRs and not from internet experts of the sort that were so quick to tell everyone how illegal this job was.
Mellow out a bit Chief, you act as if you are being attacked personally and that is not what this forum is about. The only thing I mentioned was the three watch system nothing else. I work for the EPA on the BOLD occasionally and though it is a federally owned vessel, we run the boat legally on long runs and maintain a three watch system even in near coastal waters....The snipes do too.............
