Also I'm not too worried about the pay because I'm just super stoked to be with a major player like Chouest especially to get hired on in such lean times.
We talked some, then I waited in the lobby, then we talked some more, then I waited in the lobby, then we ralked even more...... It turns out they only hire on mondays (I went in on tuesday). We talked more..... then waited in the lobby again..... Then they decided to make and exception and hire me on tuesday to work as an AB (I volunteered to work as AB until they could get a Capt or Mate spot available) even though they didnt have anywhere to put me. I'm still amazed and puzzled as to why they hired me. I must have made one hell of an impression on them because from what I can gather they hired me for no reason other than I am the kind of person they like to hire and they wanted to get me onboard to have for when work picks up later. The pay isn't that great, but I will be working on their tractor tugs starting mid july (OSV's until then) so I can at least get a harbor towing endorsement.
Hey, Back from the bayou. I got hired by Jambon but things didnt add up and it got sketchier and sketchier as the day went on. I ended up walking away from they deal after I let them waste most of a day. I was getting extremely discouraged after that and even agreed to a possible job running a 130 mini osv for 260 a day. I called Kelly Sweeny to see if an AB job I turned down had been filled yet, but didnt get ahold of him. I reluctantly stopped by Chouest believing I was wasting my time as everything I have seen from them has been geared towards the 1600ton level. I applied and was shocked when they said they would like to interview me. I still thought it was going to be a waste of time and they wouldnt be interested in me until I got my 1600. Again I was shocked when they told me they really wanted to hire me. The problem was they needed a captain last week but had filled that spot and didnt have anything right now.
