Where can I find copies of the assessment sheets for RFPNW and for OICNW? I saw the six celestial assessments for OICNW, is that it or is there more? And if someone already has an AB but not RFPNW what is the process to get it? Is it as simple as completing the assessments?
Everything is explained in there. RFPNW can be a massive pain in the ass to get. Read through 14-02 several times, and do a search on here about RFPNW; there's been several threads about it.
Good luck…
Edit to add: cut and paste the entire web address there; I don't know what I've failed to do in order for it to link to it properly, but that will bring you to 14-02…
You can go to MPT in Ft. Lauderdale for your RFPNW assessments. They put you on a simulator for the entire day running through the excercises. They sign off on all your RFPNW sheets. The cost is around 800, but worth it if you don't currently work on a ship or large vessel.
The process is easy. Steer a course, range, etc. Follow orders from the bridge. Not bad at all.
And I am a bit confused about RFPNW. Do you have to do both the assessment grid that looks like the toar and the individual sheets or can you use either? Or does it have to be the individual sheets and they are trying to mess with us?
There is about 20 something sheets for the RFPNW. To cap it off, there is what looks like a spreadsheet with a summary of the assessments you also have to get signed as well. OICNW assessments are different. RFPNW is for entry level stuff, to become AB.
OICNW is another can of worms that have specific sheets for different subjects. ARPA, Celestial, Coastal Nav, Terrestrial Nav all have their own control sheets you get signed off on.
There are 84 or 85 assessments for OICNW. They can be found as an enclosure to policy letter 11-07 (http://www.uscg.mil/nmc/announcement...er%2011-07.pdf) . These are the same assessments that used to be in policy letter 01-02. There was also 1 assessment in policy letter 16-02. You need to make sure that that one is in 11-07. If not you need to print it out & include it as well.
It seems like this is something the nmc should have on its website. A pdf with all required assessments called "OICNW Assessments" (or RFPNW) so we don't need to hunt through policy letters to find them.
