OK, I will be the first to ask... What is a MERPAC and why will it be a dog and pony show?

It's hard not to be cynical about the admirals asking advice from people about whom they know so little and care even less.

I guess they are no longer worried about the "advice" they would have received in response to the "recognition" of foreign mariners.
