Default License Rating Questions

I got confirmation off the CG web site that my 500 NC Masters license is in the mail. Can someone tell me what II/2,II/4,IV/2,VI/1,VI/2,VI/3 & VI/4 refers to in plain english or tell me where I can find out myself? The only things that are missing is the 3000ITC and ARPA.Also with this license is it possible to take an approved celestial navigation course (operational level at LE Fletcher) and go to oceans from near coastal with out any further testing at the CG?

The numbers all relate to STCW code, I dont have the short copy of them only the full STCW code. They are your "competencies".

As for the celestial, I believe that the Masters requires a management level course, and the operational is Mates level?? This is what I have been told in the past.

Congrats on the license, I am trying to get there too.

STCW CODES:

II/2 Master/CM Management
II/1 OCINW/Mate Operational
II/4 RFPNW/AB Support
IV/2 GMDSS
VI/1 BST
VI/2 Survival Craft
VI/3 Advanced Firefighting
VI/4 MCP
VI/5 VSO

**missing II/1, VI/5, and the "negative" ARPA endorsement..NMC should require master/management level exam for oceans..as far as the 500GRT/3000ITC thing??

a. Master and mate licenses
(1) A mariner licensed as master or mate 1,600 GRT on ocean or near coastal routes may
have the license endorsed as valid for service on vessels of not more than 3,000 GT. This
endorsement is not limited to service on OSVs. It is included here as a convenient reference
about endorsements that will allow such mariners to serve on OSVs measuring between 1,600
and 3,000 gross tons.
(2) A mariner licensed as master 500 GRT on ocean or near coastal routes may have the
license endorsed as valid for service on OSVs of not more than 3,000 GT on near coastal,
domestic voyages.
(3) A mariner licensed as mate 500 GRT on ocean or near coastal routes may have the
license endorsed as valid for service on OSVs of not more than 3,000 GT on near coastal,
domestic voyages.

Thanks for the info Conspearasea and Seadawg. I just recieved an e mail from the NMC saying that LE Fletchers celestial course meet the requirements of, inter alia, exam modules 206XX and 207XX.

Do a search for yourself on the Homeport site under the Merchant Mariner Credential Verification. It'll show you your credentials, and if you click on the MMC it will tell you what all the STCW codes are.

Can someone explain what this line on my 100-ton Masters N/C license means -- "For domestic voyages only, the holder of this credential meets the STCW 1995 regulations without further endorsement"
Can someone explain what this line on my 100-ton Masters N/C license means -- "For domestic voyages only..exempts you from foreign voyages.., the holder of this credential meets the STCW 1995 regulations without further endorsement"..for your current tonage and route no additional STCW endorsments are required..
as Capt. Lee put it you may want to consider working toward an upgrade ASAP!!

Naw.... I don't need any upgrades, but thanks for answering. Since retiring I avoid "working" towards anything. I got the license mostly for the knowledge to stay out of the way of you big-boat guys.
