    Default Tides and Currents

I recently tested for my 200 Ton Master. Passed the deck general with flying colors and the chart plotting didn't pose any problem at all, but tides and currents ate my lunch! Predicting the height of tide at any time or the velocity and direction at any time was like hitting a brick wall.

Do any of y'all have an internet source or a place where I can get a tutorial on this subject. I had never failed a test in my whole life...until Wednesday. I have 60 days to retest, but I don't care to sit in class with the same instructor. I'd rather do it on my own.

Any help would be appreciated. I don't want to make but one more trip to Morgan City between now and April 20th. It's a long haul.

    Thanks,
    Nemo

    Lapware.org
$75 setup fee and $50 month subscription. I skipped his tide and current problems but assume they are written out and explained for you. I used the program for other Terrestial questions & Celestial studies. A one month subscription should do it for you. Thing is you may go back for retake and not even get a Tide or Current problem but at least you will know how to do them. Congratulations on the modules passed.

    Thanks 10T,

I will subscribe to Lapware, and if a month doesn't do it a year probably won't! I've never had a problem with this stuff before, but a quarter century old brain is a lot more flexable than a half century (or more) old one.

Once again, thanks for the reply.

If you ever can't remember how to do it, just remember that it's written in the book - step by step of how to do it!

    Yessir,
I forgot about that. My instructor didn't point that out until I failed the test, but the fault was mine. I wasn't as dilligent as I should have been.

Young Memorial is being very accomodating and I'm confident that I'll leave there next month with a 200 Ton Master and Master of Uninspected Fishing Vessels.

Empire, Louisiana...It's going to be a long six months.

    Dang Jeff,

That's a great site. I hadn't been there before but I think I'll be spending a bunch of time there.

    Thanks,

    Hey King,

Yep. Daybrook Fisheries aboard the "Lauren A" out of Empire, La. I could have had my pick from Cameron, La., Abbeville, La and Reedville, Va, but Daybrook looks like the place to be.

It will, however, be a long six months.
