    Question Lapware Program

I have been looking around this site for quite a while now and have gotten a lot of good info.My question is about the Lapware Program.Once you get your approval to test letter with the exam modules listed and give them to Lapware to set up your study material,is this your actual test questions that you would be sitting for?I have been at Young Memorial in Morgan City and Fletcher in Houma since July taking all the required courses to upgrade to 500 NC. I am heading back to Fletcher to start the upgrade course with Ken Bruce tuesday next week.I was just wondering about how close to the actual test questions this Lapware program is.

    Thanks

All of the questions in lapware come directly from the USCG database, and they have accurately divided them up into the correct modules.

That being said, that database of questions is huge, so you may get questions on your exams that you didn't see in lapware, and vice versa.

My experience with the program was that the types of questions on the mock exams that they gave me were very close to what I saw on the exams.

And they routinely update their questions from the MNC. They also include solutions for all the questions with calculations and chart plots, which are updated and continue to be added as they build the database.

Thanks for the info.I have been told the Lapware is as close to the actual test as you can get.If I'm thinking right, for an example if there were say 1200 questions on ROR,does Lapware condense these down to 400 questions based on the exam module #? I also received an e mail from the NMC on 1-5-10 saying my evaluation was complete and I would be getting my approval to test letter.Got another e mail late yesterday evening saying I now will be getting a letter for more info they need.

Personally, I didn't care for Lapware, though I used it supplemented with Capt. Joe's for off-line studying on the boat.

    Rule of thumb:

If you can pass all tests generated by Lapware with 90% for the license that you are sitting for, you are ready for the Coast Guard. Study till you get to that point, and produce about three full mock tests when you think you're at that point - sit down and take them.

Capt.Joe's is good (mainly, because of price), but I never liked the inability to track progress and redundant study. Never had the time for that crap.
Lapware will allow you to go through custom license databases - answer questions, and not ever see them again (if you got them right), if you choose - and the ability to only review those that you've missed along the way. Always good to concentrate on the key areas where you're weak.

On Capt. Joe's - if you missed a few questions within a certain "subject" module, you have to reanswer all of the ones you got right again, just to get to the ones you missed......
I always felt like I went to McDonalds, ordered a burger in the drive-through, paid - drove around the building, ordered a large french fry in the drive-through, paid - drove around the building again to get a damn drink. I guess it will all get you there, but I always preferred the lapware.

Mike, I received two emails like that, only in reverse, and got my approval letter a few days later. Hopefully that will be the case for you too.

I started using Hawspipe.net software and like it because you order the disc for the exact license you are studying for. It only contains the questions you will need for your grade of license, not ALL the questions in the data base. Also, they have tons of reference material even Pub 9-Bowditch in it's entirety on the disc. It's a pretty good deal for 60 bucks. I recently purchased Lapware and have found it very useful too. Especially all the solutions. I am getting pretty close now.........boy, studying is a bitch after 15 years of not doing it. But I know the returns will be well worth it. I'm sitting for Inland Master AGT/2nd Mate Oceans/1600t Oceans in one combined exam. It consists of 8 modules.

rjbpilot - Thanks for the info. I have Capt. Joe's, and find the lack of a filter frustrating. The hawsepipe.com looks better suited for my needs. Here's a faster link to it: http://www.hawsepipe.net/

The price for the CD for 500 T Master Oceans is listed at $79.95.
