Default 3rd Mate upgrading to 2ndMate/Master OSV/Inland Master AGT/1600ton Master

I was originally going to upgrade my 3rd mate to 2nd and take my 1600ton masters test considering i work in th oil field. But i have heard that i also qualify for Inland Master AGT and Master OSV, i dont know if thats true or if I even have anything to gain from the AGT or OSV license. Can anyone offer any guidance? Thanks

Get all you can as soon as you have the seatime. At the rate they're going, it'll only be more difficult and costly if you put it off.

That is pretty much my goal, but i am not sure if i qualify for the Inland Master or OSV Captain. The crossover between unlimited and oil field licenses are confusing and i think most of it is dependent on your evaluator. the CFR's are vague at best and nobody down here seems to know how it works.

The Master 1600/3000 trumps the Master OSV license unless you get the Master 500/6000 OSV and you need to take an approved course for that.

WRT the Master Unlimited inland, I'm not sure. I applied for that just to see what would happen.

11.435 Service requirements for master of inland steam or motor vessels of any gross tons.
The minimum service required to qualify an applicant for an endorsement as master of inland (excluding the Great Lakes) steam or motor vessels of any gross tons is:
    (a) One year of service as first class pilot (of other than canal and small lakes routes) or mate of Great Lakes or inland steam or motor vessels of more than 1,600 gross tons; or,
    (b) Two years of service as wheelsman or quartermaster while holding a mate/first class pilot license or MMC endorsement.

Hey Lost in Fourchon hows it going, I got a quick question for you I also work out here in the gulf on a supply boat, I am near my upgrade time and wanted to know if you had what exactly they are asking for now I know with 270 days of 12 hour days you get your 2nd mates and taking a 70 question test you get the 1600 ton masters but as far as flashing lights I have the last one I took in 08 do you know if that works? Thanks

Also see 46 CFR 11.431, Tonnage requirements for Great Lakes and inland endorsements for vessels of over 1600 gross tons.
