    500 ton, 1600 ton, 3rd mate are all the same test,,,,just different module numbers. When upgrading to any of the higher mates license you need to retest again. It is what it is sorry to say but that is the system,,, pretty soon we are all going to be so book smart that no one will have time to learn how to drive a boat,,,
