Default Safe Gulf, Huet, Rigger etc...

Gearing up to do my "door Knocking" at the end of the month and was thinking about padding the resume first with Safe Gulf, Huet and Rigger. Is there a school around Houma that offers these in a week that anyone recommends? I found www.occu-safe.com. Being as it's on my own dime, the cheaper the better also.

Most of the time when you hire on with a decent company they will send you to all these classes before ever putting you on the first boat.

Alot of people use Falck Alford, I have been through many classes there, always company paid though, so I have no idea about the cost.

I went to their Houston location for HUET in 2009. My company paid, so I don't know the out of pocket cost (I see figures around 800 bucks on the web) It was a nice, fairly new facility. We also learned water survival techniques with flotation vests and a life raft. IIRC the course was about 3 days. There are one day courses as well, just for the helo portion.

I know at ECO they will make you take those classes at orientation even if you already have them.

There are a lot of schools that offer these courses. The LA community colleges: L. E. Fletcher in Houma; and Young Memorial in Morgan City, are probably cheapest.

You can probably take HUET right in the Northeast. You might want to try John McMillan of McMillan Offshore www.mcmillanoffshore.com. He travels around offering HUET and water other survival courses.

I do not think that taking these courses will help you much as far as the bigger and better boat companies go. I think that they might help with the headhunters and smaller companies. Once you have them you'll be ready to go if a pierhead jump comes along.
