Default Owner of pirated vessel Iceberg 1 out of business, leaves crew to rot in Somalia

Just got word that the owner of the pirated vessel Iceberg 1 has gone out of business and left the crew to rot in a Somalia. Here's the story of their plight: http://gcaptain.com/crew-iceberg-abandoned-owners?33512

It looks like the Iceberg has been released. I hope that the crew can be awarded ownership of the vessel so they can sell it and at least recover some small amount for their time.

When is the IMO or any of the nations which supply seafarers going to make abandonment of seafarers a crime so that when the scumbag who abandoned Iceberg's crew can be arrested and imprisoned in India or some other 3rd world nation? If there were truly any justice, he would be put ashore in Somalia with the next load of "catch and release" pirates.

Steamer, there was a report that it got released a few weeks ago, but that report was retracted. Have you heard otherwise?

It looks like I got a bad report as well. Evidently 6 Indian crewmembers were released last week after their families paid separate ransoms by the sound of it.

Another report said that the ransom had been paid but dropped to the wrong group of pirates ...!? Another provided an interview with one of the pirates supposedly holding the ship. If a reporter can phone them how come we can't kill them?

I want to know why in this time of electronics and satellites 'we' haven't gone to the factory that is making these 'skiffs' they are using and glassing in a transponder in the layup of the hull to track these bastards. Gheeze, we can put blackboxes in jets, put bugs in the Russian embassy (and viseversa) and eaves drop all over the world. Come on!

Because it is not a priority to the government to stop piracy.
