    Default Pirates kill 4 americans

Four Americans aboard a yacht captured by pirates have been killed off the coast of Somalia, CBS News reported Tuesday.
CBS said a US Navy warship was following the captured vessel -- the S/V Quest -- and when gun shots were heard the Navy took action.
More than a dozen pirates were aboard the yacht and some were killed, the report said.
The hijacked yacht was reportedly heading for the pirate coast of Somalia, after being seized Friday afternoon 240 nautical miles off the coast of Oman.
The yacht's owners, Californians Jean and Scott Adam, and two others, Phyllis Mackay and Rob Riggle, from Seattle, were on board, CBS said.

IMHO..a very sad day..there is but the one "historical solution"..that vessels be suitably "prepared" to eradicate threat of piracy whenever wherever confronted..all else is folly!!

Maybe this will be a wakeup call to the fools who think an unescorted voyage threw pirate waters on a luxury pleasure-craft would be a jolly good time. God rest their souls. But I can't help but think they strode into their fate with eyes wide open.

I share the love of cruising, as these poor souls did...I will speculate that they weighed the pros and cons of this crossing before hand..Probably spent weeks and months agonizing over it even...Any successful cruiser does..

Cruising, especially as long as these folks had been doing it, comes with making huge decisions that can have catastropic effects.. When you are out there, you know full well that you are on your own and can rely on no one to help you if things go bad.

.I doubt this was a decision that most of us would have made but regrettfully, this is one they made..
