    Default Hawespipe Engineers Wanted

McAllister in New York is actively seeking Engineers.

I was up in the yard earlier this morning talking with some of the guys and the Personnel Manager. The Personnel Manager is looking for Engineers. He is not interested in recent Academy Grads at this time and he isn't entertaining anyone that's had 10 jobs in the last 5 years (the example he gave). DDE 4000 would be a plus, but I don't think it's a requirement. He wasn't asking us for help, he was just discussing the difficulty he's having in finding them.

If you're interested, Fax your resume to "Personnel" (718) 273-6325.
If you can't laugh at yourself, you're going to miss out on all the fun everyone else is having.

Wow I just can't let this one pass. So the McAllister personnel manager wants someone who's loyal to one company yet willing to jump ship. They better be offering 500/day with benefits, because a lesser candidate is making about 420. Also guys of the calibre they seek get by just fine on Word of mouth.... Sorry about that rant. I'm just a little perturbed at the disconnect with companies and their hiring procedures. And I actually have a decent gig.

I didn't say that, neither did he. While it may be improbable, it's not impossible that there are engineers out there that are currently unemployed, for whatever reason. I don't think he's looking to steal someone from another company. Our regular personnel manager has been out for about 8 months with surgery. Probably won't be back for another 6, if he even comes back in personnel. I was hired 7 years ago sight unseen with no experience, basically, I had a pulse and was willing to do the job (deck). This guy is trying to be a bit more selective. I find it hard to fault him for trying.

We lost our long time regular engineer off my boat about 6 months ago. Had nothing to do with the pay, benefits, or work environment. They would have matched anything he was offered. Has a job if he should ever want one. It came down to travel. He didn't want to get on a plane. Now he doesn't. That's what it took for him to change jobs, had nothing to do with the compensation. So people will make a change for their own reasons and it doesn't always have to do with money.
If you can't laugh at yourself, you're going to miss out on all the fun everyone else is having.

Don't know if your opposed to working on the Great Lakes but the company I work for is always looking for people. Grand River Navigation. The personel manager is Rick Turman at 440-930-2024. This is a fleet of self unloading bulk carriers that haul rocks, sand, coal, salt, and iron ore. They stay mainly on the lower lakes but occassionally get up to Superior. They are not the newest boats by any means, one from 1927 and another from 1943, and 2 from the mid 1970's but they float and the checks don't bounce and your usually in range to call home depending on your cell plan.

I have noticed a marked slowdown in posts for this thread, So…… the question is has many mariners found jobs? Maybe many of posters, have just given up?
What is the consensus out there? Is that most anyone with basic experience, willing to take jobs that maybe are not quite what they want, have found positions? Or maybe it was just a few posters whom were putting out the major information, and those poster have found positions
    Thoughts?

Here is an awesome benefits package. You pay to fly to the boat, you pay to eat and sleep on the boat, you work 18 hour days, and your compensation is percentage only...

    ========

Alaskan Leader Fisheries is a leading longline company based out of Alaska. We are looking for entry level and experienced crewmembers to work on board our commercial longline fishing vessels in the Bering Sea. Each position requires applicants to be physically fit, endure long hours (up to 18 hours per day), be capable of lifting 90 pounds repeatedly, and intense physical labor. Generally the conditions are cold, wet and noisy. Each applicant will be expected to work well with and respect other individuals on board the fishing vessel.

All applicants must complete an online application at www.alaskanleaderfisheries.com – DO NOT CALL. All approved applicants must participate in an interview, complete all required pre-employment paperwork, and pass a non-dot drug test and criminal background check.

Once hired, you will be flown to the port at which the vessel is docked; normally the port will be Dutch Harbor, Alaska. Airfare to the vessel will be at your own expense; however the company will advance the airfare to you and deduct the cost from your first paycheck. The company will pay return airfare, upon completion of your second contract to the designated point of hire. After you have completed your third consecutive contract the company will refund your airfare from point of hire to the boat. Our points of hire are Seattle, Anchorage, Kodiak, and the Dillingham area. A contract consists of one trip, which averages approximately 30-45 days.

Generally entry level wages start at .50% of the catch and percentage is based on performance. You will be charged $24.00 per day for room and board. Advancement in the company can happened quickly for those individuals who show the willingness and initiative to do so.

Please visit www.alaskanleaderfisheries.com to fill out an online application or submit an email via our website if you have any employment questions.

just want to put it out quietly that Noble is looking very hard for licensed marine personnel presently. Obviously they would like people with drilling experience and DP certificates for deck officers but ANY unlimited US license can be considered. Yes, I know that there's lots of people who don't think too much of Noble, but of all the drilling companies with DP vessels they offer the easiest way to get started in that sector of the offshore industry and to build experience.

anyway, if anyone wants to PM me directly about this, I am open to hearing from you.
