The Louisiana Department of Civil Service has a job opening for Marine Master 3, apparently this is for operation of a ferry but I'm not 100% positive what level license they are looking for. They indicate "Master" but do not specify what tonnage.

Master on Drillship. Frontier Drilling
To Vanslack: Good for you! I left a company that didn't want to pay the mariners a professional salary. They wonder why they have a high turnover rate. We can't let companies get away with that. We all worked hard to get and maintain our professional credentials.

Seaport Marine is owned by Charles Bender the son of Tom Bender. Seaport was formerly owned by Tom until he started private recruiting for Int. Boat Rentals.
Tom was a good guy. Charles is ok.
Seaport will negotiate the fee with you.
Rick Ely who owns Compass Marine used to work for Seaport.
Just about every head hunter out there got their start working for another head hunter.
I always use head hunters as a very last resort. Like I have no money and mortgage is behind last resort.
They send you on jobs that no one else wants on junk ass equipment for substandard companies. Why else would a company need to use a head hunter that charges you to find an employee for them.
Once you sign that contract they got you by the short and curlies. Even if you get fired or quit.
Head Hunters won't admit it but some can actually find you a pretty decent job because they give untraceable cash kickbacks to the personell men at these companies.
Go ahead and sign the contract and see what they throw your way.
Just do your homework on the company before you accept the job.
Don't let the head hunter pressure you. If the job can't wait 2 weeks for you to put in notice or make up your mind it is too good to be true.
If they need someone tomorrow there is a reason for this. They probably just fired a guy with no notice and will do the same to you if it suits them.
Beware

Beware. Be very aware. Says Hornbeck but it is actually Levac one of Hornbeck's red headed step children.
Junk boats. Jerk crews. No food. No showers. No orientation. Stinking locals that don't shower for roommates. Long hours. No OT. Lump it or swim home attitude.
Never again.
