    Default Looking at the options

Don't everyone laugh at once. I am 50 years old, tired of all the bull shit that comes with my current career. I have always wanted to give the Merchant Marines a try. My kids are grown now and really there is nothing holding me back. I have read a lot about the MSC and I have talked to the Mid-Atlantic Maritime Acadamy. I quite frankly am more interested in what you have to say. A rep for the MAMA told me I could make Captain or Master I think is how you refer to it in 8 to 12 years. What say you? I would also like to know what is the best course to pursue a career as a sailor.

you can make a 100 ton master with 720 sea days. look at www.uscg.mil/nmc and go to the check list,,, NEVER to old to start,,,,

up to a 200 ton master requires very little schooling,, after that you have more schooling and need more tonnage to go forward with a higher license

Your going in the WRONG line of work if your looking to reduce the amount of bullshit in your life.
Getting straight with Nate, because apparently getting right means your going to have to retake Nav Gen

At one time I quit going to sea thinking a nice land job would be less bullshit. I learned there is equal bullshit everywhere except I got paid better for the seagoing bullshit.

I second that. Hell its knee deep just on this boat and its funny how its up to the overhead in the captains room. The office sends a dozen truck loads away everyday.
