Edison Chouest Benefits

I saw a post from a few years ago saying Chouest had "mediocre" health benefits though they do not expand on what makes them say that. So, what do the people that work there think about the benefits? Do the medical benefits cover everything no problem or do you still wind up paying a lot yourself? What about the other benefits there like 401k and travel pay?

Their benefits may not be the best in the industry but they are far from the worst. TO me, one needs to look at the complete package when making a decision.

401K - Match 0.50 on the dollar up to 6%; paid all at once at the end of the calender year; travel is paid based on your distance from the Galliano office, should cover about 50% of your travel; you are not on the payroll until the day of crew change and if you crew change after 6am you get 1/2 a day's pay and you go off payroll when the carryall gets back to the Galliano office, if you get back to the office before 1800 you get 1/2 days pay. Generic mail order prescriptions are free, Insurance premiums are cheap, deductibles for health are 1500 for employee and 3000 for family. STD provided / LTD optional, small life insurance provided.

Unless you work international, you basically get paid door to door with the company paying 100% travel. If you live outside of 3-4 hour drive to Galliano, international is where to aim.

So they aren't great but they aren't horrible either. Which companies with large OSVs have better benefits? Or is Chouest about as good as it gets as far as OSV companies go?

For a boat company, I thought Oceaneering benefits were very good. I dont remember medical being that high. But I am not one to go to the doctor for any little thing.
