Default Navy Vet/college grad looking for a career change and help from mariners

I'm a 5 year Navy vet (shore based airframes mechanic P-3 Orions and E-6 Mercury's) and a recent college grad (bachelors in history from Towson University) who wants to follow in his fathers footsteps (a British merchant navy vet) and start working my maritime career.

I have the money and time for the TWIC, MMC, and STCW-95, so no worries there. I am looking for an entry level wiper position on a deep sea container, tanker or other merchant ship on the east coast (I live in Maryland) but I'm open to going to the west coast.

Any info or direction would be much appreciated!!

MSC is also opening Wiper soon....Like you wrote K5Blazer83, Start working on the TWIC then MMC and do the BST for STCW. Seeing that you're in MD, why not drive down to Piney Point and speak to these folks... http://www.seafarers.org/phc/
