Good luck with that one brother. Most companies I have worked for in the gulf are 2/1 or longer schedules.
Some deepwater companies are 1/1 I think. River companies often offer a 1/1 but the pay is less unless you are wheelhouse.
Fairfield Industries and Chouest have 1/1 schedules I think but I don't think either is hiring.
I have been married for goin on 11 years and we have been together goin on 13 years. I have three little ones at home.
My wife knew what she was gettin into when she married me. I guess it would be different if I worked a land job, married her, and then up and took off for a seagoing job.
She is close with her mom and dad and they help her out with the kids while I am gone.
Being gone really sucks but when I am home we have QUALITY time together. My kids don't want for anything and either does the wife. We aint never asked nobody for nuttin and hopefully never will.
Keep your wife close to her family if they get along is my advice for being gone. Don't relocate her hundreds or thousands of miles from her home and family support system and then think she is going to keep the home fires burnin for you. Never works out from what I have seen. Especially when you add kids into the mix.
Skype helps out alot too. Being able to see them while i talk to them helps out a lot on both ends with the home sickness. Call everyday, twice a day if you can.
Thats my two cents. take it for what its worth.

she hates when I leave but has gotten use to it now I do most of what's above with my own minor changes but family close by most definitely helps
