Hey there Paul;
I have worked for the Stabberts on most of the boats they had years ago. They are a really nice family run operation. Dan Stabbert is the owner and a real stand up guy. If you can get in to see him he will listen to any concerns you might have. They do a lot of reaserch boats and have also a few yachts that they do crew management for. I would defintely work for them again if i ever go to sea again. Good luck.

They are a decent company to work for. Pay scale is in the middle of the road, they do pay travel, benefits are minimal, several of their boats are tied up, typically you will work a 60/60 rotation and they will let you draw unemployment during your time off. Most of your duties as an OS will be janitorial. They mostly run survey vessels.

Having worked for the man myself, I disagree entirely and I dare say that his reputation on the West Coast bears me out.

Paul - When I worked there it was mostly guys from the PNW and a few from the gulf. When the contracts are there - they have a lot of work. otherwise with the state of things right now the work might be spotty. they work wherever there is work. For an example, I delivered one vessel from Alaska to Gulfport Miss. for another contract. they even had boats in Nigeria at one point. I can see from other posts that some dont share my view of the company. I have worked for bad companies and they arent bad. I think in the past some of the marine operations managers were not always the best.

I'd tend to lean c.captain's direction on this one with regard to the man's reputation. It isn't stellar.

PNW is Pacific NorthWest. Wikipedia says, The Pacific Northwest is a region in the northwest of North America, bound by the Pacific Ocean to the west.

Always included are the Canadian province of British Columbia and the U.S. states of Washington and Oregon. Southeast Alaska, Idaho, western Montana and northernmost California are often included.

When most people talk about it there are usually just speaking of the US part, Washington, Oregon, and Idaho.

Randomly as several others said... they go where the work is.

I have done several hitchs with them and i loved it there. They expect hard work but they dont jerk you around. Nothin wrong with that. As for Dan's reputation, you dont make a sucsessful company by making friends do you? My checks always cleared and enjoyed the people i worked with! That said just checked in the other week and theres not much in the near future work wise...

Right now Stabbert only has one vessel on charter and the rest are off contract. They have a lot of laid off employees and are scrambling for work. Good company to work for when they are busy, though.
