Union manpower daily sheets

Can anyone help me out ? I'm new to game and joined the S.I.U. last year and I need the "411 on how to "get in to the job rotation". I live over 100 miles from the union hall so It's hard to make a regular trip just to see what shows up on the daily job sheets. If I could get the daily job sheets E-mail or fax, it would save a lot of time and money. Especially when I'm not making any money. Last summer I worked 1 day. When I do show up the steward says I should have been here yesterday ???????? He looks at me like I'm some kind of "Nut" and asks were my dues are? ( I've always been paid up) and tells me to sit down "something might show up today".
Other guys at the hall tell me to just be "persistent" and "hang-in-there"
I have a 100ton & AB unl,stcw-95/rfpnw---- what gives ????? I'm not
looking for a "handout" just a "hand".

This is a very qood question, how would you know of job openings, unless you parked yourself right there at the hall, and lived in the Seamans refugee center, Seems like something out of the 30s and 40s.

Anyone know of how the hall is supposed to work? What works in real life?

When you ship off the board in the hall, there are several variables. First is the seniority of your book and then the time on your registration card. Also, given the same seniority, graduates of the Paul Hall training program get preference. It's just a fact of life that you'll have to sit in a hall and wait for job call. You can work into a permenant job if you choose and then it is rotation.

The tugs and ATBs are considered inland division and you very seldom see them on the board. You generally have to tell the agent or patrolman you're willing to work on a tug. Good luck!

If I was you, I just grab a job off the all ports list and some time under your belt and $$ in your pocket. Then worry about getting a job off the board. You could also call manpower at PP and ask them where the jobs are at as far as the port thats shipping the most people. So save up some traveling money and had to the port where is hoppin'
