    Default What does 'standby' imply?

So I got hired last week and was told weather would hold up my joining a boat for a few days. On Tuesday I got a call that I was on 'standby' and to get prepared for departure. It's now Friday and I've been hanging out with my bag packed waiting for the call. Is this normal? Does standby status mean I'm getting paid something? Curious minds you know..

Are you salary or dayrate? If salary and hired already they you are probably receiving pay but if dayrate your most likely SOL.
