Plus the fact that they stopped making the Cleveland diesel in the late 50's I can only imigane how old that boat is. The Cleveland pre dates the 567 EMD, it was a good submarine engine back in WWII

I wonder if that is the old Aleska. I brought her up there around '79. Had a 278A V8 for the main. Converted YO.

They have the ex crab processor AKUTAN which had 8-278A Clevelands in her. She was an ex WWII Army FS.

Nice but very old littile ship. She was for sale for a very long time at a very low price.

I used to deliver king crab to the Akutan, she was also known as the Midas for a short time.

After grinding away on the gear it was always nice to pull into Atka tie up to the Akutan.

We would offload our crab and get a hot meal, she was a nice old boat..

I always liked the AKUTAN's conversion. She was the precursor to the VICEROY and later the GALAXY.

I am surprised though that she was never repowered with Cats...those old Clevelands must be a bear to keep running now that Hatch and Kirk are out the business.

Enter the mud boat, cheap easy conversions that forever changed the Bering Sea....
