    Default 500/1600 ton master/mate ?'s

Hey guys got a couple quick questions!

I am approved to test for my 500/3000 ton master NC i will begin testing monday...
if i wished to add 1600 mate to my license would there be further testing?
i'm confused as a master 500/1600 would seem to override a mate, but i am seeing different when i do research....
    all help is appreciated !!!

Do you already have your 500 ton mate and corresponding OICNW? If so, then there is no further testing or training required for the 1600 mate.
If you don't already have your 500 ton mate, then the short answer is no, you can't just add 1600 mate to your license without further training and then testing.
There are lots of threads on the forum that discuss the Master OICNW loophole that you are currently taking advantage of, and the training required for the Mate OICNW.
    Good luck on your exams.

Yes, after completing all the assessments and submitting them to NMC along with new application you will be approved to test.

You will have to complete all testing for the Mates license.

Do a little resaearch and find the Guide for mariners- Merchant marine examinations (Deck and engineering Guidance),
that will show you all the different modules that you will need to test for.

If you have the sea time you may consider applying for a 3rd Mates ticket, it would be issued with a tonnage restriction if you don't have the tonnage to qualify for unlimited.

    Good Luck

Probably. Unless you already have mate 500, and tested for it after 2/1/2002, you'll have to test for mate 1600. There is stuff on the mate 500/1600 test that isn''t on the master 500/1600 test. This is why a master 500/1600 going for 3rd mate also tests.

I'm finally ready to test for 500 master nc, but my letter-to-test expired. So I reapplied, and now they're saying my Prof. in Survival Craft has expired before it could be attached to an AB. Major bummer! Now I gotta take that damn class again! I'm ready to take the exam now, and get my home life back again!tired of reviewing.

On your PSC what expired is the portion that substitutes for the Lifeboat written exam. It is not a hard test, so you may want to save the time and $$ of redoing the PSC course and just take the LB exam at the REC.
