Five people were injured Wednesday when a seismic research vessel crashed into an offshore platform in the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR has confirmed.

The company said the incident occurred Wednesday at about 13:50 local time at the N.Narimanov (OGPU) offshore oil field. According to Socar, the offshore research vessel Arya 141 was conducting seismic exploration activities when it lost control and crashed into the leg of the No.34 platform, injuring five of seven crew members on board.

The Arya 141 research vessel is owned by the Azerbaijan Caspian Sea Shipping and was conducting seismic work on behalf of SOCAR’s Department of Geophysics and Geology.

Socar said the cause of the accident is under investigation.
